KESWICK

Situated in the North of the Lake District,Keswick
is bounded by some of the highest mountains in England (including Skiddaw
3054 ft) and lies at the entrance to Borrowdale close to Derwentwater and
Bassenthwaite Lake.
Keswick is home to the Cumberland Pencil Co. and other
attractions include the "Cars of the Stars" museum and Keswick Leisure
Pool.
The Museum and Art Gallery houses historic manuscripts
(some by Wordsworth, Coleridge, Ruskin and Southey) and the paintings include
works by Turner.
Just East of Keswick is Castlerigg Stone Circle,an
ancient neolithic site dating back around 4000 years.
Keswick hosts an annual Jazz Festival in May and is
internationally known for the Keswick Convention which is a religious gathering
now in its 125th year.
Keswick is served by buses but is no longer connected
to the rail network,the nearest stations being Penrith and Workington .
